Sunday School Post #8

Happy Sunday my friends! It has been a busy weekend with birthday celebrations and fun, so I apologize now for the very late post! I am busy preparing for the month of April in our classroom, with Easter and Spring bringing so much fun and excitement. Here is a calendar I found online HERE and then jazzed up a bit, this is perfect for using in our classroom to look up information in the morning during our prayer time.
Stopping in to a preview sale at the library got me striking it rich when I found my very own copy of The Book of Virtues!! I love sitting on the floor of a book sale and going through each and every box as I create piles and then sort through my piles to make stacks and then realize I have spent more than I intended and of course far more time than I ever thought was possible. A book sale is like a rabbit hole for me!
This past weekend took us out of town and of course exploring a new church! This is St. Peter's Church in Geneva and not quite new to me as I grew up at this parish and even was the first class to graduate in this church. I love taking the kids to a piece of my history. Visiting new churches is so much fun for not only the adults but the kids as well, they all seem to do something different for children. Here, they have special children's bulletins, complete with scripture verses and activities along with the readings of the day. They have 1 version for younger children and 1 for older children.
Our Love Dare for Children/Couples challenge still goes on and we are enjoying every part about it still. I recommend this to anyone that just wants to strengthen the bond they have with their spouse and or children. Both books are sold seperately and both go into so much detail!
I absolutely LOVE this labeled Paschal candle that I found online HERE. I printed it out in black and white, so that the kids could color it as they read each part of it!
Time for some Little Flowers Girls Club updates! Look at those cute buttons, I found them at Joann fabric and I think they would look so cute sewn on a sash! My daughter is going to put 3 on her sash and I plan on offering them up to the girls in our group in the future for a craft!
I just took my Leader Guide to Office Max and had it unbound and then hole punched for under 5.00 and now I can just slip it in a binder! This allows me to use tabbed dividers with folders in between each virtue, where I can stick ideas, worksheets, prayers and anything else I need for that particular meeting. I love being able to organize it just a bit more than it already was!
I also picked up some baseball trading card sheets to hold Holy Cards that I will need for this wreath. I have mentioned HERE, that we put our prayer cards on binder rings. That works best for us, because we love the portability of it all, but this works great for being able to view what I need and find it quickly. Some of the cards I even have multiples of, if the girls need 1.
This is my special gift to my Little Flower. I am collecting medals of each Saint we are studying in Wreath 1 and making her a charm bracelet that I will gift to her when the wreath is through. I plan on adding in crystal beads, rose charms and a variety of other things to chunk it up and make it looks sensational!
Our next meeting is on Tuesday and we begin with Virtue #1 and our first Saint is St. Catherine of Siena. This is the print out I THINK I will have for the girls (I have changed it 100 times!) and I plan to share the full meeting in next weekend's Sunday School post but wanted to share what I had so far. From the print out, they cut out each section and then create their own 'St. Page' as they listen to a story I read from a children's saint book. The page includes a Saint Coloring sheet, picture of St. Catherine, a print out of the Memory Verse and a prayer and reflection sheet. These can all be found using a simple Google Search.
Once again, over at Office Max you can have your Little Flower Member manual unbound and coiled for less than 4.00 and now it's easier to use and it looks so much nicer!
I absolutely love this quote!! Enjoy every minute my friends!

Sunday School Post #7

Sunday is here and it's time for another Sunday School post! This is the 7th one in this series and you can find the rest HERE. Prayers are so very important and to make sure that my kids know what they are saying and why they are saying it is also important. I like to make up different coloring pages and worksheets, so that they can learn as they have fun. This simple Our Father coloring page is a started page that I like to use when just starting out. Get your own HERE.
My Little Flowers group met this past week and we decorated our folders. As we are waiting on the guides and sashes to arrive, we decided to study St. Therese as I shared in last week's post HERE.
We used a celery base and paint to make roses on paper and our folders and they came out so pretty! We also made a St. Therese page using print outs from google images and the St, Therese prayer art that I made. It worked out so well and the girls all had so much fun doing it.
Here is a close-up of our St. Therese page, the calendar is a good deeds calendar, where they color each box per day that they do a good deed on. The hearts are labeled monday - friday and have good deed ideas on them.
The Love Dare for Parents is still going strong for us, as well as the Love Dare for couples. It has been a truly enlightening experience and I highly encourage you all to get the books and try it yourself! Lent is the perfect time as there are 40 days and 40 dares!
I am so glad that our Diocese is doing a full day of confessions, is your Diocese doing it? No more excuses that you can't make it!
A fun craft coming up that also encourages your children to pray more! You will need a plain wood cross that is thicker than normal along with some paints and a cup hook. Begin painting your cross in any way you wish.
Once you have painted your cross, screw the cup hook into the bottom of the cross. Mine is not painted yet, as we are waiting to do them all together. Once your screw is in, you are all set!
You have just made a rosary holder! It is now perfectly ready to be hung on the wall and keep your precious rosary safe. We plan on hanging each one next to their bed, so that they always know where their rosary is.
The Communion of Saints Coloring Book is perfect for learning about Saints! I like to give them each the coloring page, while I read a story about that saint, it helps them famliarize themselves with the saints.
Enjoy every minute my friends!

Brief Sunday School Post

Since I missed last Sunday, I wanted to post quickly so as not to make this Sunday too overloaded!
This Lives of the Saints book has been AMAZING in our daily Saint readings. I love how it corresponds to the liturgical calendar and is so easy for the kids to follow on their own. It's hardcover version is so sturdy and looks pretty too!
Have I mentioned that I have started a Little Flowers Catholic Girls Club? Yup, I was looking for a group for my daughter and could not find an active one, so here I am. We have around 12 girls already and it looks like it will be a lot of fun! I am starting to get things together for our first meeting next month where we will discuss St. Therese. How cute is this mini statue? I shrunk down the original Teachers Pay Teachers file and tweaked it to fit on a toilet paper roll.
I also premade the memory verses, laminated them and placed them on a binder ring for my daughter. I plan on giving her permanent markers so that she can color them and they will look vibrant! Want your own? Get my file HERE! Just print, color and laminate and you are all set.
Enjoy every minute my friends and my the Lord bless you all!

This is another segment in my
ongoing Sunday School posts

Sunday School

Happy Sunday my friends! This Sunday posting is a new addition to the blog in which I will wrap up our Catholic school portions of homeschooling. I don't expect all of my readers to have the same views as I do or believe in what we do, so this way I figure you can either head on over here on Sunday for all the goodies or just skip the blog on this day. Thanks so much for following me no matter what though, I appreciate every bit! You will be able to find a master compilation of all our Catholic activities and crafts HERE at our Little Catholic Homeschool!   Punching holes in our Saint & Holy Cards allows us to keep them on a binder ring to hang up in our classroom, perfect for keeping organized and having them handy and on display!
Our library has a free bin of books that are usually too warped or torn up to read but I know they must feel like I do and they just cannot throw them away. What better thing to do than to use them in the classroom? This 10 commandments book was in rough shape and missing a lot of pages, so we cut it up and used it to create a 10 commandments lap book! Get creative with items before you toss them into the trash!
Our Wreath I books arrived for the Little Flowers girls club, I am so nervous about leading a group but at the same time very excited. Are your children in a Little Flowers group or are you a leader? Please share your experiences with me!! The Little Flowers is a club for girls that is the Catholic version of secular clubs and groups.
Adoration Bag #4
This bag belongs to my 9 year old. It has his book that he is currently reading: Bible Wars & Weapons, his holy cards and rosary guide along with a rosary. His Action Bible and the memory verse cards that go along with his bible. (The Action Bible is NOT a Catholic bible, he knows this and it allows him to compare the 2 bibles as he goes through it). His adoration bag is actually his everywhere bag, he is constantly using this items that it just worked out for him to bring this. In Adoration, he uses his rosary guides and prays the rosary and then he prays to all the saints in his ring of saints and memorizes a few bible verses as he prays for his intentions list.
Tomorrow is the Feast Day of St. Timothy. For our Saint of the Day, we usually read from HERE  and then as I am reading the kids color a page that I have ready and printed out. On the backside of the coloring page, they write down a few things about the Saint that stand out to them from the reading. This is a great way to familiarize children with the Saints.
Enjoy every minute my friends!
