Menu Plan Monday...Err Tuesday!

The happiest countdown moment in the life of a Disney traveler has happened today! Our Magicbands arrived, signaling that it's time to get packing and loaded and go! It was a great high to the low of the fact that a long weekend of fun was over. I hope you all had a great holiday weekend. We spent it out of town but having a lot of fun together as a family.
Did anyone else wake up today thinking it was Monday? We got our trash out, did school work and even began to get ready for Cross Country when my husband sent me a text to inform me that I was completely off on days and there was no cross country until tomorrow! Oh dear, at least we are prepared for tomorrow. Since we did a lot of eating out I knew I had to get our menu in order for this week and here I am finally sharing another Menu Plan Monday on a Tuesday since it's not really Monday!

Tuesday: Mexican street corn with Quesadilla bar (Watermelon with lime and salt for dessert)
Wednesday: Grilled Chicken sandwich w/ individual Caprese salad (Ice cream Sundaes for dessert)
Thursday: Mexican Grilled Hotdogs (Hot dog topped with avocado, pico de gallo and jalapenos)
Friday: Salad bar with Baked Potato bar and Summer berries for dessert
Saturday: Mini Meatloaves with Mashed Potato toppings and cantaloupe slices for dessert
Sunday: Fettuccini Alfredo but the noodles are made from Zucchini

All dinners are being served with a pitcher of ice water and lemon slices to cut down on our carb overload! LOL! I needed a quick week of meals that could be prepared fast or in the crockpot! With Fall sports kicking off, I knew it would be a week of rush, rush, rush followed by evenings of wine, wine wine! HAHA!

Enjoy every minute my friends!

Menu Plan Monday

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, we certainly did and we managed to stay in town all weekend long, kind of! We had a lot on our schedule as it was the first weekend that didn't bring frosty temps to the Midwest. It was time to scrub down patio furniture after pulling it out of storage, put new sand in the patio cracks and fix any blocks that may look worse for wear. It was a nitty gritty kind of weekend and we were ready for it! The kids knew that they had to work hard if we were to be rewarded and the reward was a dessert party at the Drive-In movie theater to see The Jungle Book and Zootopia! We had already seen the latter but it was still such a good movie that we were ready to see it again! It was all phenomenal and we had a lot of fun! What did you do this weekend?
Now it's time for Menu Plan Monday! I found this spectacular Monday-Weekend pad of paper in the Dollar Spot at Target and figured it was much nicer than having to print something out or the more expensive pads out there! I LOVE IT! It fits right into my planner for grocery day too!

Monday: Spinach & Feta stuffed Chicken breasts with Green Beans and a garden salad. Served with Iced Black Tea.

Tuesday: Lettuce Wraps & Raw Veggie Platter with homemade hummus (portable for a cross country event and late night) served with Lemon Water infused overnight in waterbottles and strained in the morning.

Wednesday: Veggie Lasagna with a Caprese Salad & Iced Green Tea.

Thursday: Grilled Salmon and Squash served with a garden salad and Lemon Water

Friday: Couscous Chicken Soup with Homemade Dutch Oven bread

Saturday: Grilling and Bonfire Party

Sunday: Kids have a cross country race and then we will go out to dinner with family to celebrate afterwards.
Enjoy every minute my friends!

Wednesdays are for Organizing!

Oh happy is the day when the office supplies comes out. I love to get the highlighters in a row, the pens in a rainbow of colors and the pencils sharpened just so. I enjoy getting file folders and labels, fun index cards and stickers, paperclips and pins, bands and tabs. Office supplies put me into an organizing coma and it was time for one, in fact is was long past time for a day like this. It was time to get organized for our county fair projects for 4H. We already have a lot of our books gone through, marked up and ready to create our exhibits but this was our day to get due dates, judging dates, supply lists and such all set.
The only place to hold a meeting like this is Starbucks. This is the perfect place for the kids to work and not be distracted AND get good treats while we are there too! I have 3 kids and each of the big kids is taking 11 projects and my youngest is taking 6. This makes for a lot of project books, glue sticks and poster boards! This day was spent labeling a file folder for each project, putting in any notes and sketches as well as project books. On the front of each folder we have half for due dates and the other half is for the list of items they will need for their display. On the back of the folder is a list of what is required for that project.
As we were working and chatting, I starting reflecting on our second year of 4H and how excited we were starting out and how we still remain excited to this day. We have had so much fun getting involved in such an awesome club and even better we have learned so much. My husband has just signed on to coach a robotics team for the 4H this year and he is very excited for what this brings to him. He is a man that works 70+ hours a week and now he is adding this on too? That's just how much we believe and love this organization! Are you or your children or have you ever been a member of the 4-H?
Enjoy every minute my friends!

Sunday School Post #11

*warning: picture heavy post*
Happy Second Sunday of Advent! How is advent treating you? I cannot believe how quickly the week went by. I truly feel as though we are rushing through too much too quickly!! Today my youngest makes his first Reconciliation this morning, please pray for him.
As I mentioned earlier in the week, we get 1 new book a day to countdown to Christmas, READ about it HERE! Fitting for today was our Saint Nicholas coloring book that is also a storybook! It was fun reading through each page as the kids took turns coloring and listening.
These 6 books are our daily advent books this year and we are using them together as a family in different way. We absolutely love hands on things where we are not just reading but living out our holiday season. (click each title for more information on each book)
Our Jesse Tree is doing well, the children alternate things to do with the tree each day. One child will pick the ornament of the day and read the bible verse. Child #2 will color the ornament as we read the context from the bible and then child #3 will hang it on our Jesse tree! I discussed our ornaments in particular HERE for more information.
Our Advent Calendar had different verses on each day and each door we open holds surprises from candy to crosses and rosaries to random other goodies. These just remain on the ring as opposed to try and fold them up into the calendar, that way we can keep them on a yearly basis.
Our Advent Calendar and ring of readings!
As I get my final child through Reconciliation and First Communion nostalgia begins to hit me. I cannot believe how quickly he has grown up and how I feel like I am missing so much and yet I see them all day and every day...how is it possible to feel that way? Well here are the 5 books we used to prepare for Reconciliation, as well as a binder of activities I would print from throughout the internet. We worked on everything together and had so much fun doing it. We used a Brother Frances DVD as well and he is more than ready to go! We have a different round of books for First Communion prep and I will share those as well when the time comes. Even though a couple of these are story books, we would still read them daily to help him retain the information. We also practiced going into the confessional (minus the sins) and then he took turns reciting his prayers to everyone he would encounter from our family, to ensure he was able to speak to not just me but to anyone! What fun we have had preparing for such an important sacrament!
We are working on our Rosary skills once again this month and our Rosary box is quite full of fun stuff! I talked about our color as your pray Rosary Page HERE. We also have a sheet of Prayers of the Rosary and laminated oversized pages with the mysteries of the Rosary on them. Both of those sheets we found online and just printed them out. A book on how kids can pray the rosary as well as a ring with the mysteries on the rosary on it that has the description of each mystery on the back. The pill bottles each contain 2 rosaries and are so cute!! To feel better, pray 1 rosary a day!
A few smaller books and pamphlets round out our rosary box and offer us a variety when we pray our rosary. This way the prayers are not always the same and the kids learn different things as we go along. We also use a fabulous app every now and then called The Rosario. It has the songs as well as the rosary itself all read aloud. This is good to listen to when I am driving and the kids just want to listen and not read.
I only wish our coloring book would fit in the box, because this coloring book has been colored in by all 3 kids at different stages in their life. It is full and worn but I love it and we love to thumb through it for basic information.
How is it that I save the oddest things and yet always have a need for them? This brown bag is full of toilet tubes and paper towel tubes of all sizes. We ended up needing them for our Little Flowers Catholic Girl Club of Rockford this past week. The girls each made a 16 piece nativity set and they came out so beautiful!
This is our completed Nativity out of toilet tubes! I love how it turned out! We thank Catholic Icing for the printable!

These are the last pieces we will be doing with the toilet paper tubes. I printed them out from a Google Search and then cut each one out. Each child will paint their tube any color they would like and as they dry the Angels will be colored and then glued onto the tube. Hmm...I wonder which Angel Gabriel will pick?! Each child will then research each Angel and give me 5 facts about each one. I love when they can learn through hands on activities! I will be sure to share the finished project in the future!!
Enjoy every minute my friends!

Tis the Season for Giving!

The end of the week should always be seen with excitement of what is to come, but this week has been full of a lot of testing and boring work and it had started to drag! Instead of hitting the books at home, we packed up and headed to the local Dunkin' Donuts to not only do our work but to spread good cheer! We arrived armed with coupons and cash for each child and after settling into the booth we began our work and say quietly so that we could listen to each person order and as they were just about done 1 child would spring up, grab their cash and head to the register to pay for them! Spreading good cheer was not only fun and teaching the kids that giving feels so much better than getting BUT it kept them silent and focused on their work too! Double Win!
This morning our Elf Pet, hot coffee, was found in the Elf Club House that the kids made. It's still not ready, they were waiting for the glue to dry, but they plan on making it into some kind of scene. I love when kids get crafty!
THERE HE IS!!! It took a bit of searching to find Charlie this morning, but that could be because he was up high in our mistletoe ball! What a silly elf sending out kisses to all!
The Biggest, Best Snowman by Margery Cuvler was our read for this day. I only wish a book this magical could be read on a day when there was real snow outdoors and not a 40* day that has us outside with only light sweaters on!
Look what we found!!! The perfect sled for elves and their friends. This will be gifted to the elf once the children have painted it and made it 'elf ready'. Head over to Joann Fabrics for this awesome craft that will be sure to have your children working together and brainstorming!
Enjoy every minute my friends!!

Feeling Creative and Cozy

This year for Christmas we are surprising our kids with a Disney Cruise we are taking next year. I have been collecting and ordering things for the surprise as well as things that I like to call Disney Mail that will arrive once a month until 2 months before the trip and then they will begin to arrive once a week. I like to build the anticipation, so that they are not just looking forward to one day, but what may come before that day. I recently found this Free Printable HERE and knew that it would be easy to find a Disney picture frame to do this. Once the frame arrived, I printed out this sheet and it was perfect! I cannot wait to see their expression as the countdown gets smaller and smaller. I know that they will be excited to count down each day on the frame and erase the previous one. Another idea would be to buy a plane and unfinished wood frame and have your kids decorate it themselves and you can change it out for each vacation that you are counting down to.
We are expecting snow here in the Midwest this weekend and this morning felt extra chilly. It felt like the perfect day to grab breakfast at Dunkin Donuts and have some hot chocolate and then do our school work for the day right there. I love taking these kids out and about and they enjoy it too. I often times realize that they seem to focus more when we are outside of our home classroom.

I like the DD in our neighborhood as it only seems to get crowded inside during the evening hours and the drive thru is crowded the rest of the day, this makes it the perfect place for homeschoolers! We can usually hang out a few hours and get some work done while chatting and snacking and having fun together.
Enjoy every minute my friends!

We Did It!

Hello my friends!! I fell off the face of the earth after accomplishing a trip that was not only full of many miles, but so many more smiles! We were in the car for hours upon hours, sleeping on streets and awed by amazing sites but nothing came close to beating the time spent together as a family! THIS trip right here is a HUGE reason as to why we homeschool. My kids are learning about life hands on and are not confined by walls of a classroom. I mentioned how we learn on the road in a 5-part series HERE, I also plan on blogging more in depth on how we studied and learned on this trip.
Our plan was simple and yet complex. We had 2 weeks to hit up 7 states, another country and many cities. Our goal was to see the Pope and have fun. We prepared ourselves and the kids that plans don't always go accordingly and the main point of the trip was to be flexible and have fun. Little did we know that not only would we hit up everything on our goal and plan list but we would do so much more!!
For thousands of miles on the road, I needed a backpack of energy drinks ready for any moment! I drank these non stop the entire trip as it was all about go-go-go!!!
Each state had a lesson plan with it and the kids had studied before we left, I would also question them on the road to each state and once in each state we would discuss things in more depth. There were no major stops in Indiana, aside from picking up Amish jams and a delicious lunch. This state is so close, that we have often gone here for day trips to Amish Acres, Indianapolis and the like, that we realized it was not necessary to make a full day of it. Math includes keeping in mind how many miles we have driven, how many more to go, how many miles per gallon we are getting and how much we are spending on gas.
Woohoo, it's OHIO!!! The main goal here had originally be Cedar Point, but when researching the trip, we were about 2 weeks too late for their day to day openings and they were only open on the weekends. Unfortunately for us that put a damper on a big plan, but we will hit it up another time. We then planned on making it a Magi Quest trip (which I have mentioned we LOVE!!)  so we booked a suite at the Great Wolf and headed for some water park and wizard play! Unfortunately although we had an absolute blast, this was a stop where we did not get enough for our money. We were on a road trip with a final destination and this was only a stop, which meant we couldn't suck 2 full days out it like we normally do for a Great Wolf trip!

The place was ours alone and the kids didn't want to leave, I too almost forgot that we had other plans for our trip and did not need to stop here! These resorts are just too expensive for a quick stop, they need to be ones where you check in as early as they allow and stay long after dark the day of check out.
Then the excitement begins to build once again when we see the welcome to PA sign...but of course it quickly fades as this seems to be the world's LARGEST STATE!! (of course driving to Disney World, that is how I feel about Georgia!) We stop many times for leg stretching, checking out national parks and eating but the car fun goes on! No electronics are allowed in our car rides and we all took turns reading to one another, chatting, singing, listening to books on tape and quizzing each other!

We finally made it to our home for a little over a week and the view from the roof top deck was incredible! Our family members from out of the country had not arrived yet, nor had the people flying in from Chicago, so it was time to explore! We loved every minute of our time in Philadelphia and truly found it a city of friendliness, kindness and so much more!

Our Pope days were intense, we had 2 full days of Pope possible sightings and we were ready for him! We all walked a bit over 2 miles from our temporary home to where the Pope was to be giving mass on Sunday. We left at 4 a.m. on Saturday and did not return until almost 11 p.m. on Sunday. Yes, we were on the streets of Philadelphia for over 24 hours and it was well worth it! Our group of 12 all had our wishes come true and we all made great friends with perfect strangers! Even the kids made friends that they e-mail with daily!

We brought blankets, food, clothes, scarves, gloves and even had cardboard to keep our bottoms warm, but the kids just seemed to drop wherever! We got a place right in front of the gate and were ready for the long haul! We had school work and games and coloring books, reading books, music and instruments! We were ready for anything! That day and night we saw the Pope 4 times and so close we could have reached out and touched him! I have yet to download those photos, but I will! It was so amazing, I would have been happy to leave then. Tears streamed down the faces of my children, our family members and my husband had a smile pasted on his face that was so big as he said it was the coolest thing he had ever encountered. My planning had paid off, we were in a great location
The concerts that evening were amazing! Aretha Franklin, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Andrea Bocceli, Juanes and so many more. Listening to music and speakers and then the Pope again under the stars, with the ones that I love made it all seem so surreal, almost as though it were a dream! The day of the mass dawned and we saw the Pope 2 more times...this was beyond amazing! We were still front row for communion and seeing the Mass along with the Pope, this was a trip that would forever be ingrained in our memories. We were interviewed for 2 news channels and a newspaper!
My phone ran out of battery within hours of being there, and I only had 1 battery backup. I had to conserve but the shots I got with my camera are much better than the cell anyway, yet this one is pretty good!

All along the front lines were state troopers all weekend just standing at attention and they were so friendly that my kids got to know a few of them very well! At the end of it all, when it was time for the city to clean up, they took off their badges and handed them to all of my kids! WHAT A SOUVENIR of a trip so memorable already. Yes, this was a trip for the ages! We had accomplished our main goal, the whole reason for the trip! It was time to go home happy!! Oh wait...nope!

Exploring Philadelphia was amazing, so much to see and do and the history was so rich, it made for it's very own history unit! We visited museums, monuments, the mint, Ben Franklin's final resting place, Independence Hall...We saw the Liberty Bell, had a scavenger hunt, went to some great conferences, took bus tours and met some fantastic people. Yes, Philadelphia was already a favorite city of mine, but it became even more so. We would love to go back, but our travel calendar is full through 2019 and then we begin a new chapter of our lives, learning to travel without all our children!

This was a hard goodbye to say, but we saw it all, we did so much and we enjoyed our time together as a family. Before leaving we woke up early to go up the Rocky steps, see the LOVE statue and kiss Philadelphia good bye, the rest of our trip was waiting!

2 full days in Manhattan left me feeling as though I was never missing anything. Yes, there are so many people that feel the exact opposite way, but well...not us. We absolutely adored our time with Lady Liberty and when our transatlantic cruise docks in New York, we plan on seeing her again, but for now, this was more than enough! We walked, we ate, we drove (AUGHHH!!!), we travelled by boat, subway, taxi and even car...we took in so many sites and learned more about their rich history. We learned about my husband's family as we explored Ellis Island and learned all about endurance as we climbed to the top of the crown at the Statue of Liberty. We ate giant pretzels, explored Coney Island, dipped our toes in the water of Atlantic City...yes there was so much to do and not enough time to do it all. Selfies in Central Park, TV shots in Times Square, window shopping on 5th Avenue, shedding tears at the 9/11 memorial, staring in awe at the top of the Empire State building and shivering on the Staten Island ferry...yes there is plenty to do but it was time head out again!

Still in New York it was time for another dream to come true! Niagara Falls and the Maid of the Mist! This was the most fun we had ever had, we laughed as the water hit us in the face and we snuggled in close together as the wind blew and we were soaked! The view was amazing and the people so friendly. We sat and stared for hours, we took hundreds of photos and captured many memories. What a site to behold! Our room for the night was in Canada, so it was time to cross the border!

The site was even more majestic and there was even more to do on the Canadian side. This was the most expensive part of the entire trip, even more so than Manhattan but it was well worth it! For us, this was our once in a lifetime location, no desire to go back but who knows if one day our grand kids will head here and their parents can tell them all about this trip!

2 days in Canada and it was time to head through Canada to explore and see and visit and then Michigan was here! Welcome back to the USA! This part of the trip was bittersweet as it was the last part of our trip that we would spend the night in, which meant it was all coming to a close, but now was not the time to get sentimental, ti was time to ENJOY! Frankenmuth, here we come!

This small Bavarian village is one of our favorite locations that we spend Thanksgiving in every other year, including next month! This time around we spent 2 days shopping, eating, swimming and discussing what all we would do in November. Yes, this was the end of our trip, but it was the very beginning of our travel stories and memory books!
Not at all...enjoy every minute my friends!
