Once Upon a Time....

How did the madness start?! It's been a crazy hectic week and it has me thinking GAHHH!!! Why on earth am I running this business that is getting so busy, all while running a household?? The answer is easy: I love it. This was not my 'easy money' idea (FAR FROM IT!!), it was a business born of Love. I've always enjoyed being different. In grade school, I had mismatched earrings and overly puffy dresses. I wasn't confidant enough to pull off the look, but I was working on it. By High School, I was the girl in High Heels (Funky ones at that) and bright day-glo tights or even sparkly ones too! haha! I loved standing out in a crowd. I have a loud obnoxious laugh and at 4ft10, can still manage to hold my own. I guess that's how it all started. There was just never the RIGHT accessories to go with everything I loved to wear on my non-uniform weekend days! I hated seeing the same things on shelves everywhere I went. I started buying pieces here and some there and then tearing them apart and making them into something else completely. My Dad then introduced me to Craft Stores!!! Instead of using the findings and pieces from the parts I bought, I could also add in beads and charms and whatever else I could get my hands on. It was my first true love (sorry honey!). Seeing my own creations on myself was fantastic, eventually people would ask about them and by College I was selling pieces here and there from my Dorm! I couldn't believe it! The online part came much much later, but it was a fun beginning. I still remember my first pair of plastic purple & poink mismatched earrings! One was a heart and one was a star with those clear jelly like backings. You don't even want to know how many kids asked me if I knew they were mismatched. To be young again!

The Eclectic Artisans Team has a new team shop. Check it out! To celebrate our new shop and the beginning of the holiday season, we're having a scavenger hunt, and everyone is invited to participate!

Here's how to play:

Visit the participating etsy shops (scroll down for the list of shops) and search their items for this photo:



When you find it, send the shop owner an etsy convo letting them know you found it. You can search and enter in each participating shop. You can only win once (we want to share the love as much as possible), but the more shops you enter, the more chances you have to be a winner! Each shop owner will randomly draw one winner at the end of the hunt.

That's all you have to do. The scavenger hunt runs from Friday, 11/13, 2009, to midnight EST on Friday, 11/20/09. Check the EART website on Monday, 11/23/09 to see the winners. Enjoy the hunt!

Create for the Holidays!

This Thursdays Eart Team blog ring is all about the Holidays! We were asked how far in advance we create our items for the Holiday Season. If I were taking this question from this years standpoint, I would have to say 2 years! hahaha! The first year I went into online business I started rolling out the Holiday stuff (Christmas, Valentines Day, St. Pats etc.) around the same time I would see the items hit the store shelves. I wanted it to be enough time for even my International customers to receive in time. I noticed that first year, that I sold barely anything Holiday related and just loads of other stuff that people were buying for others FOR that holiday. It seems that in my shop, the Christmas Stuff, Halloween Stuff etc. just sits on my shelves and gets dusty. I have since stopped catering to the Holidays themselves and just added my regular inventory. Every now and then I list items that I have leftover from 2 years back. Once again this Halloween Season, I only sold 2 Halloween related items & have sold 1 Christmas themed item. I will probably stick to this method for future Holidays and hope you have a different outcome in your shop!
