Tray Tuesday...A Call For Co-Hostesses!

Hello again! I am starting a new weekly post on Tuesdays, called Tray Tuesday. As you can see from my photo above, this is pretty much making up a meal that all fits in the slots of an ice cube tray! I'm a huge fan of making meals fun. With children, presentation is everything, if you show them food served up in a fun way, they get more excited to dive right in! Check out that little hand in there trying to sneak something as I am setting up.

Today's tray features many goodies, presented from Left to Right: Animal Crackers, Apples, Grapes, Strawberries, Vanilla Yogurt with Cinnamon, Raspberries, Animal Crackers, Apples. Bottom Row: Pretzel Rods, Cheese Cubes, Carrot Sticks, Bread Slices, Ham Rolls, Raisins, Fruit Snacks, Strawberries.

All you need to do is serve up a Tuesday Tray, photograph it and share what is inside! This way we all get ideas on what we could put in for next week and it drives viewers to our blogs! This will be a linky post every Tuesday, all you need to do is post and add the button above. If you are interested in being a co-hostess, I will add your blog button to my sidebar of my blog AND will feature a link to your blog every Tuesday with this post. Please only join if you can commit to doing this every week! Please post this intro and button on your blog today to spread the word!!

Treasures...Recycled Fun

It's time for another day of fun with recyclables! Today, we realized that school is right around the corner and it was time to get organizing. I will have 2 kids in the same school this year, instead of 3 kids in 3 schools! For the 2 older kids, I wanted a way to organize their folders and school papers as soon as they walked in the door.
We went through our boxes and selected 2 cereal boxes and cut off the tops evenly. Then wrapped then in Kraft paper like a present, leaving the cut top completely open. My kids painted the Kraft paper first, but you don't have to. After I wrapped them all, I let the kids decorate the insides and outsides as they wished and then glued them together! All set and ready for school to start! Have you upcycled anything lately?

Adventures in the great Midwest! Part 5

It's that time again! Time for another part of SHOW US YOUR TOWN! This past week we had the awesome chance to become members at our local Children's Museum! It was absolutely amazing! We have already been 3 times since the start of our membership on the 5th. We have been here before and always have a great time, so we knew it was time to just add another membership under our belts. This place is top notch from the outdoors all the way in. 2 floors of fun with a giant outdoor maze-type play area with a large water table.
Actually our favorite place is the water table! We all get soaked and have a blast pulling apart the PVC parts to create new flows with the water. We easily spend over an hour of our day here every single time.
This is definitely a place for awesome imagination play as well as getting some real life experience! You can be a construction worker, train conductor, grocery checker, mail person, you name it!
We played house in the greatest play house ever! This is all part of the new addition that was really done well. All the kids had fun making dinner and doing the laundry as well as tidying up the fun little cottage. Even the flowers in the planters came out!
They had a working ATM (play money!!) and even those awesome bank chutes where you can send the tube over to someone else and chat with them by speakerphone! My youngest loved this even more than the water table!

Next up was the garage. Here the kids could change the tires, muffler, license plates and so much more! The car made sounds and the air drill worked too! Do you spot all 3 of them???
My favorite part of the day was seeing the kids on TV! They have a news center where the kids could see themselves as the reported the days happenings. There was even a weather map, perfect for any little meteorologist in the making.

A great lesson in team work was having the kids build a castle out of these Imagination Playground blocks. They had so much fun that in the end they didn't want to leave! Good thing these were by the exit, so we just stayed until closing time!

Through much trial and error, they were able to build a ball chute that would give the balls enough momentum to round the track and feed itself right back into the castle, so they never had to come out! Do you see all 3 of them?
There is a temporary exhibit all about the force of SPINNING! So many hands on things that made this area fun for everyone, even Daddy had a blast spinning the little ones around. Have you ever been on a segway?? They have one of those to try too! I hopped on and thank goodness Daddy didn't take a picture, because I was not that good at my first round, but it was fun and there is no time limit, since we were the only ones in there!

The giant bubble pool has inspired us to make our own! (Coming next week!) Can you see all 2 of them about to be covered by a bubble?
Another lesson in teamwork, brings us to this fantastic grain elevator! This is so much fun for sensory play too! I will warn you, it becomes an addiction to try and lift all that grain and keep it going. At one point all 5 of us were going strong!
Here is the view from the giant tractor in the agriculture exhibit! Boy, we never knew how many buttons were in a tractor! My son wanted to push each and every one of them!! haha!
All in all an excellent day was had by all!!

Now, please take a minute to visit everyone in this hop!

Adventures in the great Midwest! Part 4

It's time for another Show Us Your Town post! I love these, as it really makes me take a minute to STOP and THINK and realize that when we do things, it's not something to take for granted, that I should take photos and enjoy it. Now I can enjoy sharing it with you too!
This week was SWELTERING in the great Midwest, we had heat indexed days in the 100s! Blahh! Instead of grouchy kids, I  had happy, screaming kids! We walked right over to the neighborhood splash park to spend the day! Walked?? I know, but I figured if they worked up a good sweat, they would play harder and then dry off on the walk home and take a good nap!
This splash park is so much fun and has plenty of seating and picnic areas and even a regular play park. The kids love to go here, but we only hit it up during the week as on the weekend it's a nightmare! haha!! My husband and I totally have a blast running around too! There are squirting guns, kid washes, sprinklers and the like! This splash park is definitely a MUST-Do for the locals and on Friday nights they even do a movie in the park!

National Mud Day Fun!

It was National Mud Day yesterday and we had a BLAST playing and getting dirty! I purchased a 1.00 bag of topsoil from the hardware store for this and just added water! I figured this way we didn't dig up any holes or kill any grass as we worked in a large planting bin too!

I brought out some containers from the rubbish bin and that added a whole new level of fun! They wondered if they could make castles with the mud and if they could get it to stay! We decided to make Mount Kilamanjaro, as we are studying Africa this week!

We added flower bulbs that I had leftover from the Season and the kids had so much fun popping those into containers with dirt to make small planters and to also dig them deep into the bin.

Then we started 'cooking' with our mud and made oreo cookie yogurt! haha! There was so much fun being had that we did not even realize that we had been outside so long! Everyone was getting extra dirty, but the laughter that was coming out was making me smile so big that I think I might have looked crazy! haha!

All in all, National Mud Day was a success and we had a blast working with it! What did you do with mud? Please share all your mud related activities in the hop!
