Monday Math and Menu Plan

Happy Monday my friends! We had such a busy and fun weekend that I wish I had more time to share with you all the excitement and fun, but we spent a lot of time in the sun, at the movies and of course together! Today brings a new week that we are looking forward to and I plan on sharing some fun tips and good times we had .
UNO MATH!
Play as though playing real UNO, though before putting your card down onto the existing stack, multiply the 2 numbers! For younger players, they can add or subtract the 2 numbers. Fun and so simple to play!
♥ Making Math Fun! ♥
My 7 year old is mastering his multiplication tables and in a way for him to do well on his timed tests, we play games to help him learn them! Can be played alone of with many people!

This one is so simple and only uses a 2 dice, graph paper a marker and colored pencils (Number of pencils varies based on how many are playing). Make sure at least 1 die goes to 9 or both can go to 9 or however high or low you would like to start with.

Roll the dice and multiply the 2 numbers in your head. Say answer aloud and then begin working on the graph paper. Mark the boxes across from 1 die and then mark the boxes down from the second die to make a box. Color in the entire area and then count each and every box colored. Is the answer the same as what you worked out in your head? Write the correct answer in the box you colored. At the end of the game, each person adds up their boxes and the one with the highest area covered (or highest score) on the paper wins!
Monday: Grilled Chicken Salad with Homemade Greek Dressing
Tuesday: Polish Sausage and Potato Pancakes with Green Beans
Thursday: Keema Aloo served over Jasmine Rice with Naan
Friday: Avocado Ham Sandwiches with Homemade Pasta Salad for our Picnic in the Park with Movies!
Avocado Egg Salad is my Healthy Alternative to Egg Salad!

Swap out the Mayo for Avocado and then add in some cilantro and a squirt of lime and it's so delish!
My children like to eat it with cucumber slices.
12 Eggs
2 Avocados
Chopped Cilantro
Juice of 1/2 small lime
1 celery stalk chopped
Salt & Pepper to taste
Dash of Paprika
Mix all ingredients together to desired consistency. Serve on rolls or with veggies!
Enjoy every minute my friends and have a wonderful week!

Tuesday: Vegetable Lasagna
Wednesday: Ground Turkey in Baked Potato Skins served with Raw Garden Veggies
Thursday:  Quesadillas and Pinto Beans
Friday: Beef with Broccoli over Steamed Rice
Happy Earth Day! Here is a fun worksheet to have your littles fill out every year, to see how their responses vary!
We are spending time with our container garden today!
Enjoy every minute my friends!

Fun in the Classroom

Hello friends! Sorry about the posting delay today, it has been a busy one as we prepare for our Easter Holiday. I just wanted to share some fun things that we have going on in class this past week. I hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy the time you have with your family and friends.
Use a small craft stick to make a spacer for beginning writers. It helps them with keeping their writing neat and clean. These little sticks allow my youngest to slow down while he is writing and notice his spacing but also his writing is cleaner when he stops every word.
Use your hole punches and colorful paper for the pattern play center of your classroom. These are colorful and fun for making patterns and just general crafting too. The kids love to create their own punches and some even make it to confetti!
With all the remodeling of the house that we have going on, there were a lot of paint strips leftover! These are perfect for making bookmarks for the Book Exchange Party! We are making some for boys and girls.

More paint chips helped us make a fun Sight Word Memory Game! I have 80 cards with 40 words on them and 5 black BOOM cards. The idea is to flip a card and say the word, spell the word  and then try again. If you get the match you keep it. If you flip a BOOM card, you lose all your matches. This game has been a lot of fun to play for all the kids, even my big readers!
In an effort to make all my daily stapling a bit easier on the eyes, I took a permanent marker to my staples. It's amazing how cute it looks and it really does brighten up the page. A silly little update but one that was fun anyway.
Reluctant writers need to be encouraged in a variety of ways. I change up the writing center often and that always helps attract them back. Change up the types, colors and shapes of paper along with the writing instrument and you will notice that even the most shy of writers will head in to check it out!!
Enjoy every minute!

Science Fun for Little Ones

Those of you that have been following me for quite awhile, know that my children LOVE Science! They enjoy learning, experimenting and having fun. My oldest was the first to ask for a Science Lab and husband and I had a BLAST putting it together for her! We have shared that one with you HERE. After many projects and fun times together, my middle son asked for a Lab of his own and it was time to start thinking of what we could do for him. His room is smaller and he has other interests as well that he wanted to keep in the room, so we had to downscale his lab but we knew it could be done! Here are the makings of LAB2.

We started with storage for the larger molds and bottles of water, vinegar etc along with storage for his rags to keep the station clean. This simple crate was from a charity shop and nestled perfectly under a side table we purchased at IKEA. Now that we had the base and storage, it was time for the fun stuff!

A simple white board allows him to document his experiments and findings and the hooks hold tape for labeling, goggles for safety and tubing with funnels for anything he may come up with.

An inexpensive shelf holds his Science basics that allow all of his projects to come to life. A quick search of your laundry room and kitchen will stock even the most basic of labs.

A microscope and Science Starter Kit from Toys R Us helped give him some actual Science things to use and then we added the Periodic Table from our local teacher store. It was so simple to pull together and it has offered so much fun and excitement daily for our children! When I go to tidy up rooms in the morning, I always find a new experiment that they have started!

There is always so much more to add but for now they love it, we love it and there are things being created in both LAB1 & LAB2 every day!

Making Math Fun!

My children study their Math flashcards every evening and believe me, it gets OLD! They like to spice it up every now and then, so it's not the same thing constantly! I bought a Large Foam Math Dice Set & a pack of 100 numbers flashcards. Roll the die to see if we are adding or subtracting and then pick 2 cards at random from the numbers pile. (we keep them in a bucket and you just reach in and pull). If you need scratch paper for the larger numbers you are free to use it, but the idea is to answer as quickly as possible! This turns studying in to a fun game!
How many of us does this describe???

Yes, it really is!
