Cart Transformation

As I have recently shared with you, we are new to homeschoolers now! I am so excited for this adventure but it meant having to get my butt in gear QUICKLY! While we await the arrival of our curriculum I decided it was time to turn our boring old bar cart (that came in our basement when we bought the house) into a mobile classroom! We want to keep the surfaces in the classroom clear and clutter free, so everything will be housed on the cart that we can shuffle into the front hall closet when we have company over!

Step in Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint from Home Depot! This is the color that matches most in the classroom area. I wanted it to blend in  because I am pretty sure it will be a hot mess by the end of every week! First to tape off the wheels and random parts here and there and then a few coats of this and 24 hours of drying time and we were ready to rock!

I cannot BELIEVE what a difference this made! It looks amazing and now I am thinking that it should be a bar cart again! LOL! I absolutely adore how it turned out and for 1 hours worth of time and $8.00 in spray paint, I say it was successful!

Old is New Again!

Would you like your kids to read more? Look at books? I have the perfect solution!

We have a VAST collection of books (2 book cases in common areas, the boys have 1 and Autumn has 2, we have 1 small one in our room), we are BIG readers and love nothing more than to sit on a blanket in the park, thumbing through a book.

Sometimes, old favorites get lost and are never seen or heard from again! I picked up a fantastic paper sorter at a tag sale for .50 and popped it on top of our nature table! I went into each book shelf and grabbed 1 book, then I put 1 book in each paper slot. Within MINUTES, the kids were curious as to what was in there and they grabbed a book and sat and leafed through! Then they traded and did it all over again! It's amazing how putting something on display, makes it new again!

Weekend Treasure Chest

This weekend took me to Geneva, IL where I found the BEST Antique Market. The prices and the selection can't be beat. I was looking for buttons for a custom order that someone had and I fell in love with a few other things as well! I bought the buckles because I love to make impromptu belts out of Mens Vintage Ties. I also found the CUTEST EVER gold tone nautical bangle. If you are ever in town be sure to stop here! Even my husband found a lot to look at! I will hopefully be back next week! Enjoy your visit and share your treasures!

There are a few other Antique places in town on State Street. The one in the little house a bit out of town is alright, but the one right in downtown near the Starbucks is incredibly over priced and not stocked very well. Definitely stick in the Berry House and you will not be disappointed! Be sure to schedule in a lunch while you are there over at the Egg Harbor Cafe, always divine and will also give you the energy to keep hunting for amazing finds!

Vintage Buttons

I love to collect vintage buttons. Something about looking at pretty old buttons and thinking about where they came from, whose clothes they decorated, what store they came from. They seem to each tell a story! I love to sort them and play with them and use them in any way possible! What do you love to collect?

I opened up those buttons and began sorting and then a bracelet formed, then it still looked plain, so I added pieces from broken vintage jewelry I came across at an estate sale. I love the Spring-like look of the outcome!
